Favoritism...
Some of us got tired of seeing the God Bless America stickers on
vehicles, and even the flags flying from the windows! Some of us were
quite shocked and offended to hear the president's first words to the
country begin with "we are united." And it's not because we don't
believe that the world doesn't need to be blessed, because it does...Just
not one country! And it's not because we don't believe that sane people
would share concern and grief for victims of a disaster, because they
do! And it's not because we don't believe that there is a three-colored
piece of cloth that has been chosen by those in charge to represent
our government, because we do!
It's because all of this expression of unity and invoked blessings from
God is over-simplified...and over-controlling...and freedom challenging!
Some of us even felt we were being told how to feel and how to act...
and to an amazingly personal detail...which didn't seem very free or
reasonable. This sticker expresses the idea that over-simplification of
a situation and our responses to it, is fascist and ridiculous...And we
certainly wouldn't want to support that kind of thinking, would we?
